Join Alumni Relations and the Black Alumni Association for an exclusive virtual mid-day conversation with Ricki King, JO'05, AS'05, about uncovering Black family history through genealogy with practical guidance on how to begin your research using the stories and documents already found at home. Ricki is a professional genealogist, historian, and the founder of Roots to Branches Genealogy, LLC. For more than a decade, she has specialized in Iowa Black history, family history research, and forensic genealogy. Her work has helped uncover and preserve the stories of individuals, families, and communities whose histories have often been overlooked. She has led and contributed to major historical research projects across Iowa, including the Legacy of Iowa's Black Pioneers initiative, the City of Dubuque Black Heritage Project, and Amplifying Black Voices in Iowa. Her work is deeply committed to preserving history, amplifying underrepresented voices, and helping people connect with their past. Through powerful examples and hidden histories from Iowa's Black community, she’ll discuss how genealogy can reconnect families with their ancestors and preserve legacies for future generations. The conversation will be facilitated by former Drake University vice provost for student affairs, Dr. Wanda Woods Everage, LA'72.
