Kittie D. Weston-Knauer, a long-time resident of Des Moines, Iowa, has built an impressive career in education, community service, and BMX racing. She holds a Master of Science in Secondary School Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, from Drake University. Kittie served as a principal at Scavo and Casady Alternative High Schools and held various leadership roles in the Des Moines school system from 1974 to 2007. Beyond education, she is a dedicated community leader, chairing the Community Action Sports Complex Steering Committee and serving on numerous boards, including the Young Women’s Resource Center and Chrysalis Foundation.
Kittie is also a trailblazer in BMX racing, having competed since 1986 and winning multiple state and national titles. In 2017, at age 68, she became the oldest female BMX racer to qualify for the world championships. Her dedication to youth and community outreach is reflected in her many awards, including the Presidential Volunteer Service Lifetime Achievement Award in 2023. Kittie’s commitment to education, athletics, and service continues to inspire, as she remains active in various leadership roles. She is also a proud mother and grandmother, cherishing her family legacy.
