A Little Salsa on the Prairie: The Changing Character of Perry, Iowa is an award-winning documentary that examines how the forces of industry and immigration have operated to encourage, and perhaps compel, people to cross borders. The documentary presents a historical view of how the relationship between ethnicity, industry and immigration has affected the evolution of the community; presents residents’ commentary concerning their plans, fears and hopes for the city; and documents a bilingual dialog process concerned with the future of the city, especially issues pertinent to immigration, employment and social relations between different ethnic groups.
Prior to the screening , Professor Jody Swilky, writer and co-producer of the documentary, will introduce the film . A panel discussion with residents of Perry will follow the screening.
