RESCHEDULED: Let's Talk About It! When "outside" hate challenges our sense of belonging "inside" . . .

The Drake community doesn’t live in a bubble. How we feel about being here and how we feel about one another here are affected by what’s going on in the world around us. Incidents of racism and anti-semitism have been at elevated levels all over the country, and in Iowa, for several years now. Sometimes these forces explicitly target communities like Drake (for example, when an outside group vandalizes our campus with stickers and fliers in the middle of the night).

The Office of Equity & Inclusion invites you to talk about it.

How can we process these events in ways that help us continually build a sense of safety and belonging for all Bulldogs? What do we need from one another—across lines of racial, religious, gender, sexual orientation differences—when outsiders’ hatred targets specific members of our Drake community? How can we practice communal care so we don’t take out the resulting fear and anger on one another, but remain determined to and focused on growing the strongest, most difference-celebrating, inclusive campus community possible?

Join us for this listening-focused, community dialogue facilitated by Jen Harvey (Associate Provost for Campus Equity and Inclusion).

Drake students, staff and faculty are all welcome.
