On Tuesday evening, April 9, author and U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum archivist Rebecca Erbelding will speak at Drake about the U.S. War Refugee Board, thanks to the UNI Center for Holocaust and Genocide Education. Her public presentation will be at 7:30 p.m. in Meredith 101.
The War Refugee Board was established by FDR in January 1944 to help rescue and restart lives of civilians persecuted by Nazis. It was the only action by our government to respond to Holocaust crimes. See https://encyclopedia.ushmm.org/content/en/article/war-refugee-board-background-and-establishment. You also can find a list of Erbelding's books at https://www.rebeccaerbelding.com/my-work/publications/.
