Writers & Critics Reading Series w/ YA Fiction Writer Amy Reed

The Susan Glaspell Writers and Critics Series presents fiction writer Amy Reed on Thursday, November 17th, @ 5:15pm in the Library Reading Room.

The Writers and Critics Series invites and encourages a broad range of attendees from across campus and Des Moines to come experience this evening’s reading with our award-winning guest speaker. Those who enjoy young adult fiction are especially encouraged to attend, as well as those interested in topics around gender, class, and power.

Amy Reed is the award-winning author of eleven books for young adults, including THE BOY AND GIRL WHO BROKE THE WORLD, BEAUTIFUL, CLEAN and THE NOWHERE GIRLS, which was optioned for a TV series by Amazon. Amy also edited the anthology OUR STORIES, OUR VOICES, which includes personal essays from top YA authors about their experiences growing up female in America. Her most recent book, the psychological thriller TELL ME MY NAME, is a near-future, gender-swapped retelling of THE GREAT GATSBY. She also co-wrote the memoir UNCULTURED by Daniella Mestyanek Young and is currently working on her first novel for adults. You can find her online at amyreedfiction.com and on social media @amyreedfiction.

The event is free and open to the campus community and the public. Our program runs an hour long and includes both a reading from one of Reed’s books and an opportunity for Q&A from the audience.

This series is sponsored by the Drake English Department and made possible by a grant from the Drake University Center for the Humanities.
